According to Derek Watkins, managing director of Cyprus4Living, there is no danger of the island being over-hyped and eventually letting investors down, like other sectors which do not have intrinsic appeal.

In some central European markets, Mr Watkins claimed that there are not as many natural benefits to support property investment from the UK.

"Cyprus has 340 days of sunshine a year," he explained.

"They drive on the left hand side of the road, they have the English banking system, they have the English legal system and the English electrical system. For English people, it makes it very easy to live there. It is a natural market."

Mr Watkins also referred to external influences that are set to have a positive effect on the Cyprus property market, such as the increasing number of airlines flying to the island and its planned adoption of the euro in 2008.
