Cypriot President Tassos
Papadopoulos has expressed the
conviction that Cyprus will be
able to join the Eurozone on
January 1, 2008, according to
CNA.
Invited to comment if Cyprus may
face any difficulties as regards
its accession to the Economic
and Monetary Union (EMU),
Papadopoulos said on Sunday: “I
hink no one can predict what
will happen, but we are on a
good track, all of our indexes
are satisfactory.”
Papadopoulos expressed the
belief that as time passes by,
he accession of new countries
o the Eurozone will become more
difficult, and that Cyprus,
having met the European Bank
requirements, will be able to
join it in 2008.
Yesterday, a meeting between
Finance Minister Michalis
Sarris, Central Bank governor,
Christodoulos Christodoulou and
members of Parliament’s Finance
Committee was cancelled.
A source at the Ministry told
he Mail that, “the Finance
Committee asked for the meeting
o be rescheduled for next week
as several members could not
attend.”
The aim of the meeting was to
discuss the latest efforts in
he adoption of the currency.
