Summer Heatwave in Cyprus

Cyprus is having another day of soaring temperatures, with 40 degrees Centigrade in the capital Nicosia and 31 degrees on higher ground.

The situation is expected to remain the same in the coming days, according to the Meteorological Services, while humidity is also very high, something that causes problems to vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and the very young or sick people.

Conditions have been similar across the whole island, with Paphos baking in extreme high temperatures, and even higher areas being unseasonably warm.

With the weather being so hot, there is little choice for the annual holidaymakers than to stay by the pool or head to the beach and swim in the sea. Cool drinks are a necessity, and air-conditioning and fans are being used wherever they are available.
